Summer Green Team Worker

Position Summary

We are seeking motivated and hardworking students to join our 2026 Green Team. This seasonal position plays an important role in maintaining the community’s outdoor spaces during the summer months. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, takes pride in maintaining public spaces, and is able to work both independently and as part of a team.

 

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Public Works Foreman, the Summer Green Team Worker will perform duties such as:

  • Grass cutting, trimming, and general turf maintenance
  • Planting, weeding, watering, and general garden/flowerbed care
  • Litter and debris pickup in parks, pathways, and public areas
  • Routine park and playground maintenance
  • Light painting projects and surface touch-ups
  • Assisting with minor equipment maintenance (e.g., cleaning, basic troubleshooting)
  • Operating small tools and equipment safely
  • Completing daily work logs and engaging in safe work practices
  • Other related duties as assigned

Work Schedule

  • Primary Hours: Monday to Friday, daytime shifts
  • Weekend Work: Minimal; only as necessary and scheduled on a rotational basis

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Ability to perform physical outdoor work in varied weather conditions
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to follow direction
  • Willingness to work safely and collaboratively

Student Eligibility

  1. A recent high school graduate entering post-secondary education in Fall 2026; or
  2. A current post-secondary student
  3. A high school student

Assets

  • Previous experience with landscaping, groundskeeping, or outdoor labour

Senior Elections Official

The Municipality of Russell Binscarth is seeking a Senior Elections Official (SEO). The SEO is responsible for the overall municipal election process and must be able to interpret and understand all aspects of legislation pertaining to the municipal election process and provide consistent advice to other election officials and to the public.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Appointing other election officials as required;
  • Establishing and maintaining the voter’s list;
  • Equipping the voting locations with materials and supplies
  • Giving public notice of nominations;
  • Receiving and verifying the nominations;
  • Establishing and equipping the voting locations
  • Giving public notice of elections;
  • Printing ballots;
  • Overseeing all aspects of the election on election day and all other duties as established in the Municipal Councils and School Boards Elections Act.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Election experience will be considered an asset

Recreation Assistant/Day Camp Leader

(Seasonal Student)

 

Employment Period: May - August
Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday

Position Summary

The Recreation Assistant/Day Camp Leader supports the Recreation Director. This role begins in May to allow time for planning summer programming before camps begin in July. The ideal candidate is a responsible, energetic and organized leader who enjoys working with children and being active. They take initiative, adapt to the ever-changing environment, have excellent communication skills and take pride in representing the recreation department.

 

Key Responsibilities

Recreation Assistant

  • Assist the Recreation Director with day‑to‑day office duties (marketing, promotion, admin)
  • Assist with gym memberships and programming key fobs
  • Help run community recreation programs (pickleball, badminton, etc.)
  • Ensure equipment is organized, functional, and properly stored
  • Set up, take down & clean Gym Kids equipment for programs & birthday parties

Day Camp Leader (July–August)

  • Plan, prepare, and organize daily activities for the Rural Rotating Summer Day Camps
  • Ensure all supplies and materials are ready for each program day
  • Supervise and lead the Day Camp Assistant (camps begin July 8)
  • Responsible for the safety, supervision, and well‑being of all children
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with parents/guardians
  • Maintain a fun, inclusive, and structured camp environment
  • Assist with light outdoor maintenance around the recreation office entrance
  • Other duties as assigned

This position changes from day to day — flexibility is essential!

Animal Control Services for the Municipality of Russell Binscarth

Introduction

The Municipality of Russell Binscarth is seeking proposals from qualified individuals or organizations to provide professional animal control services. The selected contractor will be responsible for enforcing municipal by-laws and provincial legislation related to animal control, ensuring public safety, and promoting responsible pet ownership within the community.

Scope of Work

  • Under direction of the CAO, respond to complaints and incidents involving domestic and stray animals
  • Investigate animal-related by-law infractions and enforce applicable regulations
  • Capture, transport, and care for stray, injured, or dangerous animals as required
  • Issue warnings, fines, and other penalties in accordance with municipal by-laws
  • Maintain accurate records of animal control activities and incidents
  • Educate the public on animal welfare, licensing, and responsible pet ownership
  • Work collaboratively with local law enforcement, shelters, and veterinary services
  • Attend court proceedings or hearings related to animal control matters, as necessary

Minimum Qualifications

  • Relevant experience in animal control, law enforcement, or related field
  • Knowledge of applicable municipal by-laws and provincial animal welfare legislation
  • Ability to safely handle domestic and wild animals
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work independently and respond to after-hours emergencies
  • Current criminal record check
  • First aid certification considered an asset

The Day Camp Assistant works alongside the Day Camp Leader to support day‑to‑day operations of the Rural Rotating Summer Day Camp program. This position begins in July when camps begin and focuses on child supervision, program delivery, and maintaining a safe and fun camp environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with delivering daily camp activities
  • Help supervise and ensure the safety of all campers
