Labour/Operator
Supervisor: Public Works Foreman

SUMMARY:

A Labour/Operator map perform duties involved in construction and maintenance of roads, sewer and water distribution system, Municipal property, parks and other operations areas in order to achieve the effectiveness, efficiency and financial goals of the municipality. (This job may involve the assignment of responsibilities and tasks other than those listed).

DUTIES:

The Labour/Operator will be responsible for the following:

To preform all assigned duties and operations including:

  • Road Maintenance and snow removal
  • To operate certain road maintenance and snow removal equipment
  • To assist in construct, repair or assist in the accounting for and administration of the sewer and water distribution systems
  • To maintain or develop parks and other Municipal property as instructed
  • To become part of the after - hours on call rotation

To ensure activates comply with Municipal policies and procedures.

  • To have or be willing to obtain current knowledge of all relevant policies, procedures and laws

To provide maintenance and preventative maintenance of Municipal equipment

To maintain a safe work environment

  • The right to refuse if he/she deems work to be unsafe

To meet performance criteria with regards to operations. 

  • To perform their duties at the highest level possible
  • To be subject to a semi-annual performance evaluation

To take training and education courses as may be required by the Municipality in order to comply with regulatory requirments.

To deal with the public in a courteous, respectful and professional manner

To work within the policies and guidelines of the Municiplaity of Russell Binscarth

SKILLS:

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Maintain positive and professional relationships
  • Sound organizational skills required
  • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in problem solving
  • High degree of tact, diplomacy and professionalism


KNOWLEDGE:

  • Equipment operation
  • Road maintenance and drainage systems

DEGREES/CERTIFICATES/LICENSES:

  • Grade 12
  • Minimum Class 5 Province of Manitoba Driver's License preference for Class 3 with air or willingness to obtain
  • Other combinations of education and experience will be considered.
